Social and constituation
As American society evolves and progresses, the protections afforded by our Constitution continue to apply to all Americans. Civil liberties as well as human rights for all people are core to our American values and need to be protected from government intrusion.
The Bill of Rights was created by our Founding Fathers in order to protect individual liberties from infringement from the government. Citizens have to be cognizant that these rights are fragile and vigilantly take all lawful steps necessary to protect these rights. Importantly, the government should only be permitted to create laws that impact these rights when there is a clear and compelling state interest. Any such law must be well tailored to achieve specific goals that could not be achieved through a less burdensome method. This has been and should always remain a very high bar.
The government needs to fully support our rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly even if the words and actions of its citizens are at odds with those in power. Democratically-elected leaders must not infringe upon the freedom of religion or treat followers of certain religions as second-class citizens simply because we face the threat of terrorism. The government cannot attempt to erode freedom of the press just because it disagrees with what the press reports.. As technologies develop, we must be vigilant that the government is not infringing upon our freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. We need to protect our citizens from the government depriving any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law. Government should also not be involving itself in the private affairs of private citizens and dictating to such people what type of lifestyle they live and who they choose to associate with and how they choose to conduct their personal lives.
By showing the world that we protect these essential freedoms and rights no matter which party is in power and no matter what threats we face as a nation, America demonstrates that it will continue to treat all people as equals and that the U.S. will forever protect these rights for everyone. Protecting and nurturing these rights is essential to our democracy and continues America’s role as a beacon of hope for citizens throughout the world.
The Meridian Party supports these inalienable rights of people regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender or nationality and looks forward to helping promote initiatives such as the following:
Strongly support our constitutional rights, including but not limited to, the freedoms of the press / speech / religion / assembly.
Ensure that the government does not infringe upon our freedom from unreasonable search and seizure and that all people are afforded due process under the law.

Promote equal rights and protections for all members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

Continue to enforce Fair Housing laws.
Prohibit the government from utilizing technologies (such as Stingray cell phone tracking devices) that gather information from U.S. citizens without a proper search warrant.
