COMMON SENSE GUN SAFETY
We believe in and respect the Second Amendment right to bear arms. The right to bear arms has been a core, founding principle of the United States and we intend on protecting that right for all Americans. That being said, no right is absolute and we encourage gun safety laws that protect Americans.
We believe common-sense, gun safety laws need to be passed to help protect our society and promote a healthy environment of responsible gun ownership. The good of the overall community must be balanced against individual rights and we believe sensible gun safety measures will lead to a safer environment for everyone.
A few examples of such gun safety measures include the following:
Prohibit individuals on a terrorist watch list from buying a gun.
Require all gun dealers to be licensed with federal government (no loophole for gun shows or online vendors).
Require criminal background checks on all gun purchasers before taking possession of a firearm and on employees before being hired by gun shops.
Ban high-capacity magazines and assault rifles.
A 10-day cooling period required between purchase and possession of firearms.
Concealed carry permits should be restricted to people 21 and over and who have completed a gun safety training course.
Better mental health screenings for gun purchasers.
