Common Sense Gun Safety: The Meridian Platform

The Meridian Platform Series: A review of where we stand on issues that matter today.

Common Sense Gun Reform

We believe in and respect the Second Amendment right to bear arms. The right to bear arms has been a core, founding principle of the United States and we intend on protecting that right for all Americans. That being said, no right is absolute and we encourage gun safety laws that protect Americans.

  • Prohibit individuals on a terrorist watch list from buying a gun.

  • Require all gun dealers to be licensed with federal government (no loophole for gun shows or online vendors)

  • Require criminal background checks on all gun purchasers before taking possession of a firearm and on employees before being hired by gun shops.

  • Ban high-capacity magazines and assault rifles.

  • A 10-day cooling period required between purchase and possession of firearms.

  • Concealed carry permits should be restricted to people 21 and over and who have completed a gun safety training course.

  • Better mental health screenings for gun purchasers.
