MERIDIAN

Meridian is a grassroots, centrist organization which believes that America functions best when common sense policies are found between political extremes.

Meridian is born of a time when extremism has overtaken our political process. This has led to a dysfunctional U.S. Congress that cannot find common ground or pass any meaningful legislation.  This dysfunction has now spread to our state and local governments making it nearly impossible for people with differing views to make reasonable, cooperative legislation.  It has become an US vs. THEM world that only benefits special interests and tears at the fabric of our democracy.

We believe that different political ideas can co-exist within American government and that cooperation between people with varying viewpoints is for the benefit of all Americans.  We believe that government functions most efficiently when opposing solutions are distilled to their best parts. The current polarization of the Republican and Democratic parties renders this process impossible.   

Our goal is to work at the local level to facilitate compromised solutions to complex issues without undue influence from extremists. We believe that there are plenty of sensible ideas from both the Republican and Democratic parties that are worthy of implementation.  Meridian will work with local residents, local advocacy groups, and local charities to find solutions to issues that the majority of residents understand are vital to moving our communities forward in a positive direction.   

Meridian will also support Independent and centrist political leaders who will have the courage to be the swing vote that facilitates passage of sensible legislation by using the best policies from both sides of the aisle. Importantly, Meridian will focus on local municipal elections as the laboratory where Independents can run for office and show that there can be a better vision for how to solve our community’s problems through forward-thinking policies. We will look to support candidates for local office who believe in solutions that benefit the vast majority of Americans and do not cater to special interest groups who hijack the political process for their own, narrow gains.

Meridian believes that the best days of our great country are ahead of us.  We know that a vibrant democracy represented by leaders outside of the broken, two-party political system will lead us to better days. Meridian views community and government organizations to be most successful when they work for the safety and security of its constituents, and when they provide opportunites and the freedom to innovate for both individuals and businesses.

Meridian’s ultimate goal is to implement positive local results through reform, community and leadership. We will support Independent centrist candidates for political office to implement balanced policies that benefit and meet the needs of the vast majority of constituents, while encouraging cooperative discourse and solutions at a community level through its work with local, advocacy reform groups and charities.
